So Far...
So far...
Went to Lednice/Valtice, UNESCO towns near Břeclav, saw castles and nice towns. (by car)
Went to Palova near the border of Austria for a 13k hike down to the city of Mikulov. Need to go back to Mikulov because my camera batteries died and I didn't get pictures of amazing castle there. (by bike, train, then bus)
Went mushroom hunting with Libor and his parents - found enough mushrooms for dinner... mushroom goulash. :-) (by bike)
Went to Olomouc and Kroměříz with Libor - Olomouc was full of little squares that had a church or some statue or some fountain or something or other. ;-) The coolest was one church that had an astrological clock. I still need to figure out how those work. Found my name (Katerina) on one of the clocks that basically shows which Saint's day it is (mine is day nmber 300 something in November). We found the castle there, but couldn't figure out how to get in. Kroměříz has an archbishop's castle, but we arrived too late after Olomouc to go inside. :-( Went into the "zoo" park next door, saw a cage full of hens and cats (honest!), and another cage with a baboon that stuck his tongue out at me when I took his picture. (by car)
Went to Bojkovice, Rudimov, etc etc... in East Moravia, to see Libor's babička (grandmother), and to visit the area. It's gorgeous - all farmland and forest in the hills... reminds me of Vermont in some ways. Saw a castle in Bojkovice that is "owned" by some Slovakian who bought it, closed the museum and restaurant, chopped down trees to sell for wood, and abandoned the castle. :-( Pity. Saw Libor's "uncle" (older cousin) driving a tractor on the road, so we stopped to see his "aunt" (older cousin) on the farm. :-) (by car)
... *sigh!* I'm having a good time. :-)
