Italian Studies
My Italian teacher gives us handouts with exercises to work on, and I can't help but notice some of the phrases that I just needed to share...
Nessuno parla come te.
Nobody speaks like you. (spoken with a deep bassy voice to violin music)
E' necessario controllarsi.
One must control oneself. (Luke, do not give in to the anger... *raspy breathing*)
Non mi lascio offendere.
I don't allow myself to take offence. (spoken with a British accent)
Voglio bene a Maria quanto a te.
I love Maria as much as I love you.
OR
Ti voglio bene quanto a Maria.
I love you as much as I love Maria. (sounds fishy and grounds for a divorce)
You know, in class no one ever notices these phrases, showing just how much of a part of the culture it is. But from my cultural background, I am always snickering in Italian class and have to explain myself. No one really ever understands my sense of humor. Ah well.

I'm laughing over the first phrase (deep voice to violin music) - makes me envision a guy saying that with one eyebrow totally furrowed and this sexy smile on his face :-D
